Buddhist Thais, Laotians and Burmese alike place these wooden Buddha statues in high places or on the altars at home or temples and pay respect to them whenever they pray.  On “Songkran” or Buddhist lunar New Year which is on 13th April of every year, Villagers bring these statues to the open area and water or sprinkle them with perfumed sacred water together with petals of flowers to express their gratitude to Buddha statues that help protect them against devils and wrongdoings during the year.  They often ask for the New Year blessing, protection from evils, material and spiritual wealth and prosperity, good health, abundance of rice and staple foods from these sacred Buddha statues.
